Due to his worldwide popularity, Lionel Messi seems to be popping up everywhere, including the Argentina legend’s appearance in a new “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” teaser.
The upcoming film stars Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the previous three “Spider-Man” installments. In the new teaser, viewers see Peter in a convenience store while on a phone call.
Suddenly, a bell rings as the door opens, and Peter gets a shocked look on his face. It’s soccer superstar Lionel Messi, and Peter is starstruck by seeing him in person.
The two have a limited conversation, and while Messi speaks a bit of Spanish, he tells Peter he’s trying to find Spider-Man using an app that tracks the superhero’s location. Peter tells him to hold on and leaves the scene, only for the popular web-slinging crime fighter to flip into the frame moments later, surprising Messi.
“Hey, I heard you were looking for me. You good with heights?” he asks a confused Messi, before the scene shifts to the international sports superstar falling through the sky with Spidey as they swing from a nearby building.
The soccer superhero does his best work on the ground, as he’s shown with the MLS’s Inter Miami, and in the past several weeks of the World Cup.
The “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” teaser arrives amid Messi’s historic performance in this year’s massive event, which has seen him rise to the top of the all-time goals scored list at the World Cup. He currently has 19 goals and could score more before Argentina’s tournament run is over.
He’s scored in each of his team’s three group matches, including a hat trick in Argentina’s opening match to dazzle fans. Among those witnessing the spectacular performance was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
By scoring a goal in his team’s final group game against Jordan this past weekend, Messi became the first-ever to score in seven-straight World Cup games. Widespread speculation suggests that this 2026 World Cup appearance will be his final one before he retires from participating on the team.
Many also believe that Messi and company have what it takes to win this year’s event in the all-time great’s potential final appearance.
Argentina is set to compete against Cape Verde in the Round of 32 on Friday, July 3. A win would put Messi and his squad into the Round of 16, as they look to repeat as champions.
